New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur and San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton have been selected as the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending March 9. Ovechkin picked up the First Star honors after reaching the 50-goal mark for the second time in his three NHL seasons on March 3, when he recorded a hat trick and added two assists in Washington's 10-2 victory over the Boston Bruins. Ovechkin, who leads the NHL in scoring with 95 points, reached the 50- goal milestone in his team's 67th game of the season, the fastest since the Pittsburgh Penguins' Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux (59th game) and the Buffalo Sabres' Alexander Mogilny (63rd game) in 1995-96. Brodeur posted a 3-0-0 record with a goals-against average of 0.98 and a .972 save percentage during the week to earn the Second Star. Brodeur ranks second among NHL goaltenders with 38 victories and has helped the Devils move into first place in the Eastern Conference. Thornton garnered Third Star honors after finishing second among NHL scorers during the week with seven points (two goals, five assists) in four games as the Sharks extended their winning streak to a franchise-best nine games.
