East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The
New Jersey Nets get their first look at rookie phenom LeBron James tonight when they welcome the
Cleveland Cavaliers to Continental Airlines Arena.
New Jersey has been on a roll of late and closed the 2003 portion of its schedule with an 88-70 home-rout of the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
Jason Kidd scored 23 points and handed out seven assists to lead the way, while Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles added 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Nets, who have won six of their last eight and 10 of their last 13.
New Jersey won just seven of its first 18 games on the season, but has turned it around with some stingy defense, as the Nets have allowed opponents just 85.6 points a game over the last 13 contests.
The Nets, who will be wrapping up a three-game homestand this evening, have won seven of their last eight at home and are 9-7 in the Garden State this season.
Cleveland, meanwhile, dropped its third game in four tries on Tuesday when it fell 92-89 to the Indiana Pacers. James celebrated his 19th birthday by scoring a game-high 22 points, but the Cavaliers lost for the sixth time in their last 10 games.
Of Cleveland's 22 losses, 16 have been by 10 points or fewer.
James, who reeled off 13-first quarter points, averaged 23.3 points in 15 games in December and scored more than 30 points five times.
Cleveland, which has won two of its last three on the road, is just 2-14 away from home this season.
New Jersey split its four games with Cleveland last season and has won five of the last eight meetings. The Cavs have also lost four in a row on the Nets' home-court.
