Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Alexander Frolov scored a pair of goals to lead the
Los Angeles Kings past the
Nashville Predators, 4-1, at the Sommet Center.
Kevin Dallman and Matt Ellis also tallied for the Kings, who had dropped seven of their last eight games entering play. Erik Ersberg stopped 37-of-38 shots to pick up the win.
J.P. Dumont scored the only goal for the Predators, losers of three straight. Dan Ellis absorbed the loss after allowing three goals on 29 shots.
The Predators are two points back of Vancouver, which lost to Phoenix on Thursday, for the eighth spot in the Western Conference.
Los Angeles grabbed a 2-1 lead at 5:02 of the third period. Anze Kopitar won a draw from the right circle and immediately dropped the puck to Tom Preissing at the point. Preissing then quickly dished to Dallman, who rifled a shot that made its way through traffic and in behind Ellis.
The Kings made it 3-1 when Frolov redirected Lubomir Visnovsky's blast from the left point behind Ellis with 9:37 remaining in regulation.
With 2:34 left on the clock, Visnovsky was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for slashing and Nashville pulled Ellis to create a 6-on-4 advantage, but Matt Ellis scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.
Dumont opened the game's scoring at the 8:50 mark of the second period. On a 2-on-1 rush, Alexander Radulov raced down the right wing and fired a shot on goal. Ersberg made the save, but the rebound bounced to the stick of Dumont, who deposited the puck into the open net to make it 1-0.
Frolov tied the score with 1:17 remaining in the middle frame. While on a power play, Derek Armstrong threaded a cross-ice pass to a driving Frolov, who slid the puck underneath Dan Ellis for his 22nd goal of the season.
