(My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Wild will try to halt a season-high tying five-game losing streak, when they take on the
Los Angeles Kings tonight at Xcel Energy Center.
The Wild have dropped five in a row for the second time this year after also doing so from October 24-November 1. Those two losing streaks are Minnesota's longest winless droughts since going 0-4 with three ties from February 22- March 7, 2004.
The Wild have dropped their last three games, all in a shootout, including Thursday's 4-3 setback against New Jersey. Jamie Langenbrunner scored the only goal in the shootout to lead the Devils.
Stephane Veilleux, Brent Burns and Marian Gaborik scored for Minnesota, which has at least earned one point in four of its last six games (1-2-3). Niklas Backstrom made 27 saves in the loss.
The Wild are even with Calgary for second place in the Northwest Division, two back of Colorado. Both Minnesota and the Flames have played 71 tests this season, one fewer than the Avalanche.
Colorado plays New Jersey today, while Calgary is off.
Minnesota has lost five of its last six home games and play the third portion of a four-game residency today. The Wild, who are 19-11-5 at home this season, wrap the stand on Monday versus Colorado.
The Kings have won just twice in their last nine games, but picked up a victory last time out. Alexander Frolov scored a pair of goals to lead Los Angeles past the Nashville Predators, 4-1, on Thursday.
Kevin Dallman and Matt Ellis also tallied for the Kings, who are last in the NHL with 62 points. Erik Ersberg stopped 37-of-38 shots to pick up the win.
Los Angeles' win snapped a six-game road losing streak and improved the Kings to 13-20-3 as the visiting club this year. The club hosts San Jose on Tuesday.
Minnesota has won six of seven and seven of its last 10 against Los Angeles, including three straight as the host. The two clubs conclude their four-game season series tonight.
