Ducks host Kings, aim to extend franchise-record home streak

(My Sportsbook) - The banged-up Anaheim Ducks will put their franchise-record home winning streak on the line tonight, as they host the Los Angeles Kings at the Honda Center.

The Ducks return to Anaheim after going 2-1-0 on a recent road trip, though they were missing several key stars in the trek's finale on Saturday. In a 2-1 victory over Phoenix, netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere sat out with back spasms, while leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf was sidelined due to an upper body injury.

Both players are considered day-to-day and questionable for tonight. Getzlaf, who leads Anaheim with 54 assists and 77 points this year, suffered his injury in a loss to San Jose on Friday.

Making consecutive starts for the first time this season, Jonas Hiller made 30 saves to guide the Ducks to their fourth win in five games. Teemu Selanne scored twice to account for the offense. His second tally was the 550th of his career, moving him past Ron Francis for 23rd place on the all-time list.

Anaheim will hope for quick returns by Giguere and Getzlaf, as the club is already without leading goal-scorer Corey Perry (tendon surgery) as well as Ryan Carter (wrist surgery) and Chris Pronger (suspension).

Before Saturday's game, the Ducks recalled goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin from Portland of the American Hockey League.

While Giguere has gone 12-2-2 record in his last 16 starts, Hiller has been very good in a backup role this year. He is 8-6-1 with a 2.09 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in 20 games (15 starts) this season.

The Ducks need a point tonight to clinch a playoff spot for the third straight season. The defending Stanley Cup champion Ducks are six points back of San Jose for first place in the Pacific Division and sit fourth in the West overall.

The Ducks have won a club record nine straight at home and are 25-8-4 at the Honda Center this year. Anaheim will also host the Sharks and Dallas Stars on this stand.

The Kings have won two in a row after Saturday's 4-2 win over Dallas. Michal Handzus scored twice during a three-goal third period for the Kings to halt a personal stretch of 42 games without a goal.

Los Angeles scored three times in a span of 1:42, snapping a seven-game losing streak at Dallas. Lubomir Visnovsky tallied the game-winner with just over two minutes remaining in the contest, while Erik Ersberg picked up the much deserved win between the pipes, stopping 25-of-27 shots.

The come-from-behind victory puts the Kings at 66 points, just two points shy of last season's mark with six games left to play. They will miss the playoffs for a fifth straight season though and have the fewest amount of points in the NHL.

The Kings' last two wins have come on a three-game road trip that concludes tonight. Los Angeles is 15-21-3 on the road this year and plays its next two at home.

The Ducks have won four of six against the Kings this year and 12 of the last 18 in the series. Anaheim has won six of its last nine at home versus Los Angeles.
