Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The
Colorado Avalanche will try for their first win of the season on home ice this evening when they kick off a four-game homestand against the
Ottawa Senators.
Colorado, 0-2-3-0 at the Pepsi Center thus far, is winless in its last two (0-1-1) overall and most recently was handed a 4-2 setback at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.
Milan Hejduk netted his fifth goal of the season and Derek Morris scored his first goal in a Colorado uniform, but the Avalanche fell to 1-2-2 in their last five.
David Aebischer got the start in net for Colorado, with Patrick Roy hampered with a sore hip. Aebischer turned away 17 of the 21 shots he faced in the loss.
Roy is not expected back in the lineup until the weekend at the earliest.
Colorado finished 1-for-7 on the power-play and is just 3-for-35 in its own arena with the man advantage.
Reigning NHL Player of the Week Joe Sakic failed to light the lamp for the first time in four games and has registered six goals in his last four games to leave him eight shy of 500 for his career.
Ottawa enters Wednesday's tilt on the heels of its first win in five games (1-3-1), a 5-2 decision over the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.
Magnus Arvedson and Petr Schastlivy each had a goal and an assist to lead the Ottawa onslaught at the Corel Centre.
Brad Smyth, Todd White and Shaun Van Allen each scored for the Senators, who ended a three-game losing streak. Patrick Lalime made 20 saves in the contest, including 10 stops in the second period.
Ottawa, which scored three unanswered goals to take control after falling behind 1-0, have scored a power-play goal in eight straight games, which is a franchise record.
The Senators are 5-2-1 in the last eight matchups, but have dropped two straight in Colorado.
