Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The
Vancouver Canucks seek their third straight victory tonight when they visit the
Dallas Stars at AmericanAirlines Center.
After going winless in four successive games (0-2-2), the Canucks have disposed of Minnesota and Colorado to begin a four-match road trip. Both triumphs have been by the score of 4-2, including Monday's in Denver.
Markus Naslund and Todd Bertuzzi each had a goal and two assists for the Canucks, who went 2-for-6 on the power play. Trent Klatt and Brendan Morrison also tallied, while Dan Cloutier made 24 saves for his fifth win of the season.
The Canucks continued their strong penalty kill as well by quelling six of the Avs' seven chances with the man-advantage. Marc Crawford's crew leads the NHL with a 91-percent success rate (68-of-74) in that area.
Vancouver has yet to lose on the road this season -- 4-0-2 -- and will close out its current swing on Saturday in Phoenix. Naslund has scored all seven of his team-leading seven goals on the road, while Bertuzzi has notched 11 of his 15 points on hostile ice.
Dallas, meanwhile, is winless in its last three games (0-1-1-1) after four- game unbeaten string. On Sunday the Stars skated to a 3-3 tie in Detroit, as they wasted a two-goal effort by Ulf Dahlen. Dahlen, who is tied for the team lead with Mike Modano at six tallies, scored a power-play goal 7:30 into the third period to put the Stars up 3-2. However, Detroit's Jason Williams answered with 6:19 left in regulation by tipping a Brendan Shanahan pass by goaltender Marty Turco.
Modano also scored for Dallas, while Turco finished with 32 saves. Modano, who has nine assists to go with his six goals, is off to his fastest personal start since the 1997-98 season, when he tallied 18 points (9g, 9a) in his first 13 games.
With a 6-3-3-1 record after 13 contests, the Stars are off to their best start since the Stanley Cup-winning season of 1998-99, when they opened 7-3-2.
The Stars, who will honor Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith for breaking the NFL's all-time rushing record, are 3-0-0-1 at the AAC this season. They will cap off a brief home set Friday versus Toronto.
Dallas defeated Vancouver, 4-1, at GM Place on October 26 behind a two-goal showing from Brenden Morrow. The Stars have won two straight, and three of the last four meetings overall.
The Canucks have, however, won two-in-a-row in Big D, and are 5-1-1 in their last seven trips to Texas.
