Pacers stifle Sixers to remain in East playoff picture

Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Danny Granger scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, helping the Indiana Pacers remain in playoff contention with an 85-76 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.

Mike Dunleavy added 15 points for the Pacers (35-44), who remained two games back of Atlanta for the eighth and final spot in Eastern Conference, as the Hawks beat the Knicks.

Troy Murphy had nine points to go with nine rebounds for Indiana, which won its fourth straight and for the sixth time in the last seven games, despite shooting an uncharacteristically low 26 percent from three-point range.

Andre Miller led Philadelphia with 23 points and seven boards, but the Sixers (40-39) shot just 34.7 percent from the floor - including 1-of-14 from beyond the arc - and fell back into a tie with the Toronto Raptors for the East's seventh seed. Toronto breezed past New Jersey on Friday, 113-85.

Thaddeus Young scored 21 and grabbed five rebounds for Philly, which managed more than 20 points in just one of the four quarters. Samuel Dalembert hauled in a game-high 17 rebounds to go with seven points in a losing effort.

The Pacers led 67-61 heading to the fourth, and pushed the margin to 11 just ahead of the eight-minute mark when Marquis Daniels completed a three-point play. Travis Diener snuck inside a trio of Sixers for a putback among the trees, kick-starting a 15-2 Indy run that was capped by Granger's bucket with about 4 1/2 minutes to go and made it 82-65.

"I was just trying to keep them at as big of a distance as possible," Granger said. "(The Sixers) are a team that can score a lot of points quickly, because they get up the court so fast. So whenever they tried to make a run, I would try to quickly answer back."

The horrid shooting continued for the Sixers, who went more than five minutes between made field goals in the fourth, and Indiana cruised to a relatively easy finish.

Diener finished with six points and six rebounds to go with a team-high eight assists, while Flip Murray totaled seven points and six helpers.

Andre Iguodala was limited to nine points in his 30 minutes, leaving briefly during the first half with a lower left leg contusion. Iguodala did hand out 10 assists, but the Sixers didn't help their cause by shooting a dreadful 9- for-21 from the foul line.

Philly shot just 38 percent in the opening quarter, but still led 18-17 going to the second. A 7-0 spurt early in the second had Indiana up 26-20, and led by as many as eight en route to a 43-37 halftime advantage.

Indy pushed its lead to 11 early in the third, but the Sixers were back within three, 53-50, after Miller went baseline and scored on a circus shot just ahead of the six-minute mark.

Game Notes

Indiana is 10-3 over its last 13 games, and tied a season high with its fourth straight win; its final three games are at home against Charlotte on Saturday, Monday at Washington, and back in Indianapolis against the Knicks on April 16...Daniels totaled five points, eight rebounds and three assists...The Sixers forced 20 Pacers turnovers, led by Iguodala's four steals.
