Rafer Alston collected 15 points and eight assists and Caron Butler added 14 points and seven boards for Miami, which has won three in a row. Houston was clinging to a one-point lead early in the third quarter, before Miami went on an 18-8 spurt to grab a 67-58 advantage with 3:43 left in the period. Odom and Alston drained three-pointers during the run. Jones' three-pointer in the final minute of the stanza increased the Heat's lead to 74-63 and Miami continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter. Odom's hook shot with 5:31 remaining extended the margin to 18 at 90-72. The Rockets got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. This marked the second meeting for the Van Gundy brothers as NBA head coaches. Houston's Jeff got the better of Stan in the first encounter when the Rockets posted a 90-70 win on November 11. Heat rookie guard Dwyane Wade, sidelined since January 2 by a bruised wrist, is expected to return Wednesday at Cleveland or Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers. Miami has won nine of its last 12 games at home and is 13-7 in its gym this season.
