A-Rod hits two balls over fence, credited with 1 HR; Yankees roll

Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two doubles, one of which should have been ruled a homer, in his second game back from the disabled list, as the New York Yankees pounded the Baltimore Orioles, 8-0.

Rodriguez finished with two runs scored and two driven in, while Johnny Damon went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Yankees, who have recorded wins in just two of their last eight contests. Robinson Cano and Chad Moeller each had two hits and an RBI in the win.

Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who left Tuesday's game with an injured wrist after being hit by a pitch, knocked in a run in the middle contest of a three- game set.

Darrell Rasner (3-0) was convincing in getting the win, going seven strong innings and not yielding a run on five hits, while fanning six and walking just one. It was a career-high in strikeouts and innings for Rasner.

Joba Chamberlain took care of the last two frames, doling out two walks and a hit to go with his three strikeouts. The reason the young righty threw two innings, is the Yankees are stretching him out to make him a starter.

"I haven't done this transition in the middle of a season before, it's a process," Chamberlain said. "I've got to get my endurance up; my arm will be fine, I just got to work on my legs. I'm excited about the process, but we got to win ballgames."

For the second time in a week, umpires blew a home run call at Yankee Stadium. In the sixth inning, Rodriguez hit a ball that caromed off a set of yellow stairs beyond right-center field. However, umpires ruled the ball in play for an RBI double, to the disbelief of Rodriguez.

On Sunday night, there was another botched home run call when the Mets' Carlos Delgado hit a ball that bounced off the bottom of the pole in left field, but it was ruled foul.

Nick Markakis and Kevin Millar each had two hits for the Orioles, who have lost just twice in seven attempts. Freddie Bynum had a double in the loss.

Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora left in the bottom of the third inning with contusion and laceration on his right middle finger.

Garrett Olson (3-1) took the loss as he was roughed up for a season-high six runs and eight hits in a season-low 2 2/3 innings.

The Yankees made it 3-0 in the second. Shelley Duncan hit a one-out single and came around to score on Cano's double. Moeller then singled to left, plating Cano. Melky Cabrera added another base hit and Damon drew a walk to load the bases. Jeter's check swing produced a slow-roller down the first base line, allowing Moeller to score, but rendering the shortstop out at first.

Rodriguez led off the third with a blast over the wall in left-center. Hideki Matsui then drew a walk, and after Duncan flied out, Cano belted a single to right and moved to second on throw.

In the process of sliding into third base, Matsui inadvertently kicked Mora in his throwing hand. Mora tried to grip a baseball, but was unable, forcing Alex Cintron to come off the bench and take over at third base.

After Cabrera was beaned to load the bases, Damon cracked an RBI single up the middle. Dennis Sarfate was called on in relief of Olson and got out of the inning, but the damage had been done with a 6-0 margin.

The offenses went dormant for the next few innings, until Jeter worked a walk from Lance Cormier in the sixth and stole second. Bobby Abreu then struck out, but Rodriguez hit a long drive over the wall in right-center for his disputed double.

Rodriguez held at second and Jeter crossed home plate on the play. Matsui drew a free pass and Rodriguez took third, before Duncan had an RBI groundout. The Yankees were sitting on an 8-0 cushion after six frames.

"You know these guys are going to come out and rebound," Orioles manager Dave Trembly said. "That's just what they did."

Game Notes

New York had scored two runs or less in six of its last seven games...Baltimore had won three of four from the Yankees this season before Wednesday's setback...Baltimore only managed six hits.
