New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Allan Houston scored 21 points and Lee Nailon added 20, as the
New York Knicks defeated the
Sacramento Kings, 95-88. Shandon Anderson and Charlie Ward chipped in 15 points apiece for New York, which notched its first victory of the season after an 0-4 start.
Othella Harrington and Kurt Thomas each had 10 points for the Knicks, who have won six in a row and 19 of their last 20 games at home versus Sacramento.
Chris Webber paced the Kings with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Peja Stojakovic contributed 19 points and Bobby Jackson collected 16 for Sacramento, which has dropped three straight overall.
The Knicks were clinging to a two-point lead, before opening the fourth quarter with a 16-5 spurt to grab their biggest lead at 90-77 with 3:53 remaining. Nailon highlighted the decisive run with 10 points.
Sacramento then scored the next eight points to pull within five, but Thomas scored inside for New York courtesy of a goaltending call against Webber to make it 92-85 with 1:01 left.
The Kings were again able to close within five at 93-88 and had possession of the ball. However, Stojakovic missed a layup with 17 seconds remaining and the Knicks got the rebound. Howard Eisley then sank a pair of free throws to account for the final score.
The Knicks used a 7-0 spurt, capped by Anderson's three-pointer, to take a 20-15 lead with 3 1/2 minutes left in the first quarter. Sacramento then scored seven of the next nine points to tie the contest at 22-22.
New York eventually held a 27-26 advantage after 12 minutes and then opened the second quarter with an 11-5 run to increase the margin to seven.
The Kings responded with a 12-0 burst, culminated by Vlade Divac's hook shot, to grab a 43-38 lead with four minutes remaining in the period. Sacramento would build the advantage to 51-42 on Jackson's three-pointer with 1:54 left in the first half.
However, New York closed the second stanza with a 12-1 surge and carried a 54-52 lead into the locker room at halftime. Anderson's layup following a steal in the closing seconds put the Knicks in front.
Houston had 15 points in the first half, while Webber led the Kings in the opening 24 minutes with 13.
The Knicks scored the first six points of the third quarter to push the advantage to 60-52. The Kings then rallied and tied the contest at 72-72 on Stojakovic's layup with 32 seconds left in the period. Eisley's jumper in the final seconds of the third quarter gave New York a 74-72 advantage after 36 minutes.
Stojakovic netted 14 points in the third quarter.
