New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The
Calgary Flames try to extend their unbeaten streak to five games tonight when they visit the
New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Calgary is 3-0-1 in its last four contests, including consecutive victories over the Islanders and Devils to begin a five-game road trip. On Tuesday against New Jersey, Chris Drury scored his second consecutive game-winner with his sixth goal of the season 3:21 into the third period.
After a between-the-legs pass from linemate Jarome Iginla, Drury gloved down the puck, dropped it on the ice and backhanded a shot into an open cage.
Drury, who was obtained from Colorado in the Derek Morris trade just before the season, extended his points streak to seven games. He has four goals and four assists in that time.
Mathias Johansson and Stephane Yelle also scored, while backup goaltender Jamie McLennan made 30 saves -- 19 in the third period alone. McLennan has played well in place of regular backstop Roman Turek the past three games. Turek is on injured reserve with a broken finger.
The Flames can become the second team ever to sweep the three New York area clubs on a single road trip. The Los Angeles Kings accomplished the feat last January.
Calgary, 4-1-0-1 away from home this season, continues its current swing Saturday in Florida, and will wrap things up two days later in Atlanta.
New York, meanwhile, hopes to make it an Alberta sweep after disposing of Edmonton, 5-2, Tuesday to end a three-game losing streak. Radek Dvorak led the charge with a goal and two assists for the Rangers, who jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match. Mark Messier, Rem Murray, Petr Nedved and Mikael Samuelsson also scored, while Ronald Petrovicky and former Oiler Tom Poti added a pair of assists each. Goaltender Mike Richter earned first star honors with a 39-save showing.
Messier continued his remarkable start, bagging his seventh goal of the season, which ties him with Pavel Bure for the team lead. During his career against Calgary, including his days with the mighty Oilers, Messier has 45 goals and 72 assists in 100 games.
Poti, meanwhile, has been an offensive spark from the Blueline, and leads the Blueshirts in scoring with 13 points (1g, 12a). He is tied with Dallas' Sergei Zubov for most points among NHL defensemen.
Eric Lindros, meanwhile, did not score Tuesday, but was on the ice for 20:58 after being benched against St. Louis on Sunday. Lindros, who has seemingly smoothed things over with coach Bryan Trottier, has only managed two goals and five assists in 14 games.
New York, 3-5-1 at MSG, caps off a three-game homestand this evening. The Rangers will visit Columbus Saturday to open a four-game swing.
Calgary defeated New York, 5-3, at the Garden last March 3 to snap a two-game series losing streak.
