Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Red Wings will try and put the brakes on a three-game winless streak tonight when they continue a five- game homestand with the
Boston Bruins.
Detroit, which is 0-2-1 in its last three, was shutout by the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, 2-0, to fall to 1-3-1 in its last five.
Manny Legace started in place of usual No. 1 Curtis Joseph and stopped 21- of-23 shots, but failed to register the win.
Detroit still had its chances late in the contest to get one by the stingy Jocelyn Thibault, but could not find the back of the net.
Defenseman Chris Chelios skated in on a breakaway with 2:20 left in the game only to be denied, then Sergei Fedorov wasted probably the best chance of the game. Down a goal with 1:35 remaining, Fedorov, all alone in the crease, was stopped from point-blank range with a chest save.
The Red Wings, who will visit the President at the White House on Friday, failed to capitalize on six chances with the extra skater. It was the first time in 12 games this season and 14 dating back to last year, that the Red Wings failed to score a power play goal.
The Bruins enter Thursday's tilt on the heels of a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Bryan Berard scored with 38.8 seconds remaining to cap a three-goal third period, as Boston rallied from two down in the final period to upend the Rangers.
Joe Thornton and Sean Brown also scored in the third for Boston, while Steve Shields finished the contest with 25 saves, as the Bruins moved to 7-2-2-0 on the year.
The Bruins finished 1-for-6 on the power-play, and are just 6-for-53 with the man-advantage this season
Sergei Samsonov will miss his eighth straight game because of a sprained right wrist, but is hopeful he can be back in the lineup against Ottawa Saturday.
Away from the friendly confines of the Fleet Center Boston is an impressive 5-1-1.
The Bruins have taken two of the last three meetings, but Detroit has won 12 of the last 16 matchups, including two of the last three, and five of the last seven in the Motor City.
