Buffalo, NY (My Sportsbook) - The Buffalo Sabres have announced a new American Hockey League affiliation with Portland, Maine, ending a 29-year relationship with Rochester, New York. The lengthy agreement with Rochester was the longest such partnership between an NHL team and AHL affiliate. During that span, Rochester had a record of 1,137-932-238-13 in 2,320 regular season games and made the playoffs 24 out of the 29 seasons. The team won its division title eight times, advanced to the Calder Cup Finals six times, winning the championship in 1983, 1987 and 1996. Portland had been associated with the Washington Capitals from 2000-05 and with the Anaheim Ducks for the past three seasons. |
