Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - Veteran left winger Gary Roberts will reportedly not continue his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Roberts' agent Rick Curran told the newspaper that his client intends to test the free agent waters. Acquired from the Florida Panthers on February 27, 2007 in exchange for defenseman Noah Welch, the 42-year-old Roberts recorded 10 goals and 28 points in his season-plus with the Penguins. He was limited to only 38 games last season because of a broken leg and high ankle sprain. Originally a first-round pick (12th overall) by Calgary in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Roberts was a member of the 1989 Flames squad that captured the Stanley Cup. For his career, he has tallied 434 goals and 903 points in 1,194 games with the Flames, Hurricanes, Maple Leafs, Panthers and Penguins.
