New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - New York Yankees ace Roger Clemens officially filed for free agency on Thursday, a week after declining his option for the 2003 season. The six-time Cy Young Award winner has said he still wants to re-sign with the Yankees. New York also has interest in the veteran righthander, but at a cost of less than the $15.45 million he would have earned in 2003. Clemens was 13-6 with a 4.35 earned run average in 29 starts last season, his fourth with the Yankees. He also compiled 192 strikeouts in 180 innings. The 40-year-old Clemens is just seven wins shy of the 300 mark. The Yankees and Clemens' agent have begun talks about a new contract. San Francisco's Tom Goodwin also filed for free agency on Thursday, meaning 152 eligible players have already declared. The remaining 18 eligible players have a deadline of Monday to file.
