Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - Conor Jackson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, three runs driven in and two runs scored as the Arizona Diamondbacks clobbered the Chicago Cubs, 9-2, in the second of a three-game set at Chase Field.

Orlando Hudson hit a solo home run, but left in the eighth inning after getting hit in the right ankle with a pitch, while Stephen Drew had an RBI and scored twice for the Diamondbacks, who have won three of their last four.

"Typically we have trouble tacking on runs," said Arizona manager Bob Melvin. "It was good to us getting some runs in the end, the seventh and eighth inning. It seems like if we get a lead we have a little bit of trouble scoring after the fifth so maybe this is a theme."

Yusmeiro Petit (1-1) got the win as he gave up just one run on three hits in five innings of work for Arizona, which has a one-game lead over Los Angeles for first place in the NL West.

The big news before the game was that Arizona acquired reliever Jon Rauch from the Washington Nationals in exchange for infielder Emilio Bonifacio. Rauch, 29, is 4-2 with a 2.98 earned run average and 17 saves this season. At 6- foot-11, Rauch is the tallest current major-leaguer.

Daryle Ward hit a solo home run while Mike Fontenot drove in the other run for the Cubs, who have dropped five of six and are now just one game ahead of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central. Jason Marquis (6-6) was saddled with the loss for giving up three runs on five hits in six innings of work.

"It is only July so they should not be pressing," said Chicago manager Lou Pinella. "We are just not hitting with men on base. When the middle part of your lineup is not driving in runs is becomes a bit of a scuffle and that is what has happened."

The Diamondbacks took a quick 1-0 lead in the first on Jackson's one-out, solo shot over the left field wall.

Arizona tacked on another run in the third inning. Jackson punched a one-out single and Hudson followed with a walk. Mark Reynolds later belted a single to left that scored Jackson.

The Cubs got on the board in the fourth as Mark DeRosa got a one-out walk and Fontenot later tripled to right to make it a 2-1 game.

However, Arizona got the run back in the bottom of the fourth. Alex Romero drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Petit's sacrifice bunt. Drew then hit a double to left to bring home Romero for a 3-1 advantage.

Arizona further secured its lead in the seventh as Drew scored on a wild pitch from Sean Marshall and Hudson followed with a solo homer into the left field stands for a 5-1 advantage.

Chicago got a run off Tony Pena in the eighth on Ward's one-out, solo home run to right to make it a 5-2 game.

However, the Diamondbacks answered in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win. Miguel Montero worked a leadoff walk and came home on Chris Young's double. Jackson later hit an RBI double in the inning and Augie Ojeda's ground out plated Drew for a 9-2 advantage.

Game Notes
