Ottawa, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - The
Ottawa Senators seek their third consecutive victory tonight when they welcome the
Los Angeles Kings to the Corel Centre.
Since dropping three straight games to close out October, the Sens have disposed of Western powers Detroit and Colorado, both by 5-2 margins. On Wednesday, Marian Hossa led the charge in Denver with his second career hat trick. Daniel Alfredsson added a goal and two assists, while Patrick Lalime turned aside 36 shots between the pipes.
Ottawa went 3-for-6 on the power play to extend its franchise record for consecutive games with a man advantage marker to nine games. For the season, the Senators are 14-for-60 (23.3 percent) on the power play, which is the third-best clip in the NHL behind Pittsburgh and Columbus.
The Senators are 5-3-1 when they score a power-play goal this season, and 0-1-0 when they don't tally with the man advantage.
Alfredsson, who leads the Sens with 14 points (6g, 8a), has found the scoresheet with a point in each of the team's 10 games this season.
Ottawa, which is 3-2 on home ice, heads out on the road after tonight, and will begin a brief trip in Boston on Saturday.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, has lost two straight games, including a 5-2 defeat to San Jose on Tuesday. Jaroslav Modry scored 3:29 into the tilt to put the Kings up 1-0, but the Sharks notched the next five markers to grab a firm hold of momentum. Derek Armstrong added a third-period goal in the losing cause, while Felix Potvin finished with 27 saves.
Tuesday's defeat marked the beginning of the Kings' eight-game road trek, which is tied for the second-longest venture in team history. The swing resumes Saturday in Montreal.
LA, which will visit a Canadian city for each of the next five contests, is expected to get some reinforcement on the blueline tonight, as Aaron Miller is slated to make his season debut after being sidelined with an abdominal injury. The U.S. Olympian tied for the Kings' lead with a plus-14 rating last campaign.
Los Angeles went 1-0-1 against Ottawa last season, and is unbeaten in the last three meetings overall (2-0-1). The Kings have won in two consecutive trips to the Corel Centre.
