Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Lightning will look to halt a three-game slide tonight when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third meeting of the season between the two.
After skating to a tie in the first game at Pittsburgh, the Penguins claimed a 5-3 win over Tampa at the Igloo last Saturday.
After suffering just one loss in their first 10 games, the Lightning are in the midst of their first losing streak of the season. On Tuesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs dealt Tampa its third consecutive loss, 4-3.
Sheldon Keefe, Andre Roy, and Brad Richards each tallied for Tampa Bay, while Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 28 shots for the Lightning, who at 7-4-2-0 are tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for first place in the Southeast Division with 16 points.
On the milestone watch is captain Dave Andreychuk, who is on the cusp of a significant achievement. Andreychuk trails Phil Esposito's NHL record of 249 power-play goals by one entering tonight's action. He is also three tallies shy of the 600 mark.
Tonight's contest marks the first of a four-game homestand for the Lightning, who are unbeaten at the St. Pete Times Forum this season (4-0-0). The set will also include visits from Chicago, Phoenix and San Jose.
Pittsburgh enters Friday's tilt following a 4-3 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.
Mario Lemieux tallied a goal and an assist for the Penguins. Dick Tarnstrom and Alexandre Daigle also found the net for the Penguins, who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Johan Hedberg made 20 saves in the losing effort.
Pittsburgh forward Martin Straka returned to the lineup after missing the first 11 games of the season due to a back injury suffered this past summer. He contributed two assists.
Lemieux has multiple points in seven straight games and extended his points streak to 11 contests. Alexei Kovalev also had an assist and has at least one point in 11 consecutive games as well.
The Penguins are unbeaten in their last two versus Tampa (1-0-1), but are winless in their last six in the Lightning's home arena (0-5-1).
