Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The
Colorado Avalanche try for that elusive first home win of the season tonight when they host the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at the Pepsi Center.
The Avs, 0-3-3 in Denver this season, have dropped two straight overall, including a 5-2 setback at the hands of the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.
Vaclav Nedorost and Radim Vrbata each scored for the Avalanche, who have just one win in their last six games (1-2-2-1).
David Aebischer made 29 saves for Colorado. Aebischer is filling in for the ailing Patrick Roy, who missed his second straight game with a sore hip. Aebischer is expected to get the nod once again tonight.
This is the second meeting between the two this season after the Ducks handed Colorado an overtime defeat back on October 20 to snap a 10-game series winless streak.
The Mighty Ducks come into Friday's contest on the heels of a 2-1 win over the hapless Nashville Predators on Wednesday.
Petr Sykora scored a power-play goal at 4:52 of the third period and Jean- Sebastien Giguere made 34 saves to lift Anaheim to the win. Paul Kariya had a goal and an assist and Steve Rucchin added two assists for the Ducks, who are 2-1-1 in their last four contests.
After going 1-5-2 with an .890 save percentage in his first eight games this season, Giguere has allowed just five goals in his past three starts, stopping 73-of-78 shots (.936).
Rucchin now has 11 points, including two goals, in a seven-game scoring streak that matches the career-high he set in November 1998.
Colorado is 7-0-3-1 in the last 11, 10-1-3-1 in the last 15 and are unbeaten in their last five at the Pepsi Center versus Anaheim (3-0-2).
The Ducks are just 1-4-2 in their last seven in Denver.
