Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Braves placed two of their key players, third baseman Chipper Jones and starting pitcher Tim Hudson, on the 15-day disabled list Monday. Jones was sidelined with a left hamstring strain, while Hudson is nursing tightness in his right elbow. Jones, who owns a major league-best .369 batting average this season, has battled several injuries this year, but until Monday had not hit the disabled list. The 36-year-old, who has 18 home runs and 55 runs batted in this season, missed all of Atlanta's three-game series with Philadelphia last weekend due to the strained hamstring. Hudson is 11-7 with a 3.17 earned run average in 23 games -- 22 starts -- this season, including six shutout innings in a win over Florida in his last start on Wednesday. The right-hander underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed an injury to his elbow ligament. Hudson will be evaluated further by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama later this week with season-ending Tommy John ligament transplant surgery a distinct possibility. In a related move, the Braves recalled pitcher Charlie Morton from Triple-A Richmond to start Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Morton (2-4) was rocked for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings in Atlanta's 12-3 loss. The Braves also promoted two others on Monday, bringing up pitcher Jeff Bennett from Single-A Myrtle Beach and catcher Clint Sammons from Richmond. To make room on the roster, pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes was optioned to Richmond.
