Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Carlos Lee hit a grand slam and Brian Moehler came one out away from his first complete game in eight years as the
Houston Astros continued their dominance of the
Cincinnati Reds with a 6-2 win in the second of three from Minute Maid Park.
Moehler (6-4) was lifted with two outs in the ninth as he gave up just two runs on seven hits while Miguel Tejada and Hunter Pence each drove in a run for the Astros, who have won three straight games. Also, Houston improved to 4-0 versus Cincinnati this season and has won eight straight overall against the Reds.
Brandon Phillips drove in a run while Bronson Arroyo (9-8), who had won his previous five starts, was tagged with the loss as he was touched for six runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of work for the Reds, who have dropped their last five games.
The Astros grabbed the lead in the second as Lee led off with a single and raced home when Pence later punched a triple into the right field corner.
The Reds answered in the third as Joey Votto led off with a double and later scored when Arroyo helped his cause with a double to left.
The Astros took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on Tejada's two- out, solo home run over the left field wall, his 11th homer of the season.
Houston further padded its lead in the fifth. With two outs, Kaz Matsui singled, Tejada followed with a single and Lance Berman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lee then stepped to the plate and smacked a 1-0 fastball over the left field wall for a 6-2 lead.
The Reds were retired in order in the eighth, but threatened in the ninth.
Jeff Keppinger led off with a double, moved to third on a fly out from Adam Dunn and scored on a groundout from Phillips. Jay Bruce then singled and pinch-hitter Javier Valentin worked a walk to chase Moehler.
Wesley Wright then took the mound and struck out Votto swinging to end the game to record his first career save.
