East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The
New Jersey Nets hope to rebound from their first loss of the season whey they host the
Los Angeles Clippers Friday at Continental Airlines Arena.
The Nets fell to the Milwaukee Bucks at the Bradley Center on Wednesday, 99-93. New Jersey was attempting to capture its first 5-0 start in franchise history.
Jason Kidd collected 24 points and five assists and Dikembe Mutombo tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for the Nets.
Richard Jefferson, averaging a team-high 17.3 points coming into the game, was held to just one point on 0-of-7 shooting. The defending Eastern Conference champs shot just 40 percent from the field.
The Clippers are coming off a tough 101-99 overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in their road opener Wednesday.
Elton Brand was solid with 21 points and a game-high 19 rebounds for the Clippers. Eric Piatkowski and Corey Maggette both scored 18 points in the loss, as Los Angeles suffered its third defeat in four games this season.
Olowokandi scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and Andre Miller ended with 13 points and a game-high 13 assists for LA.
Late in the extra session, Miller sank a pair from the line to pull LA within one and the Sixers made a costly turnover, giving the Clippers possession with 17 seconds on the clock.
But Brand, who was underneath the basket, and Michael Olowokandi both failed to score and Iverson came up with the rebound, sealing the win for the Sixers.
The Nets carry a four-game winning streak against LA into Friday, as New Jersey has swept the last two season series with the Clippers. The Clippers have lost three straight at New Jersey.
The Clippers are one of only two teams (Memphis Grizzlies) that the Nets have an all-time winning record against (33-24).
LA, in the midst of a four-game East Coast trip, is 0-1 on the road this season, while the Nets are a perfect 3-0 at home.
