Seattle, WA (My Sportsbook) - Dioner Navarro drove in the game-winning run in the 11th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays downed the
Seattle Mariners, 8-7, in the third of four games at Safeco Field.
Miguel Batista (4-12) started on the mound and walked Ben Zobrist to begin the 11th inning. Zobrist stole second and moved to third on Willy Aybar's groundout back to the mound. Navarro then lofted a fly ball to left that allowed Zobrist to score for an 8-7 lead.
Troy Percival then retired the Mariners in order in the bottom of the 11th to pick up his 26th save of the season.
Carl Crawford and B.J. Upton each had two RBI and a run scored while Akinori Iwamura went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rays, who have four of five overall.
Chad Bradford (4-3), who was added to the roster on Saturday after being acquired from Baltimore on Thursday, got the win for pitching two scoreless innings while Matt Garza gave up five runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work for Tampa Bay, which leads the AL East by 3 1/2 games over the Boston Red Sox.
"It doesn't get much more wild than that," said Tampa manager Joe Maddon. "Chad (Bradford) shows up, goes 40 pitches and gets a win. I give Chad a lot of credit in that moment."
Additionally, Tampa got its 70th win of the season, which matches a franchise record set in 2004 and the team is a franchise-high 24 games over .500.
Ichiro Suzuki went 4-for-6 with a solo home run and three RBI while Ryan Rowland-Smith, making the third start of his career, gave up four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work for the Mariners, who have dropped three of four.
"There was some ugly things and there were some great things," said Seattle manager Jim Riggleman. "There's a lot of positives to draw from as we lose these tough ones like that, and that one's just about as bad as they get, but that ain't a hell of a lot different than several others we've had just like that."
Seattle took the lead in the first inning as Suzuki led off the frame with a home run over the right field wall. Jeremy Reed then walked and Raul Ibanez doubled before Adrian Beltre grounded out to bring home Reed for a 2-0 lead.
The Mariners tacked on three more runs in the second. Bryan LaHair led off with a single and Kenji Johjima followed with a double. Yuniesky Betancourt and Suzuki then hit back-to-back RBI singles before Reed hit into a double play, bringing home another run for a 5-0 lead.
Tampa got on the board in the third as Gabe Gross led off the frame with a shot over the right field wall to make it a 5-1 game.
The Rays rallied with two outs in the sixth to score six times and take the lead. Aybar got things started with a double, Navarro walked and Gross singled to load the bases and Cesar Jimenez took the mound. Iwamura drove home a run with a single and Upton brought home two more with a double to left. Crawford then doubled to center to bring home Iwamura and Upton and Carlos Pena singled to score Crawford for a 7-5 lead.
Seattle, though, tied the game in the eighth with a pair of runs. Dan Wheeler started on the mound and promptly gave up a ground-rule double to LaHair.
