Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - Boston Red Sox great Carl Yastrzemski was hospitalized Tuesday morning after experiencing discomfort and chest pains.

The Red Sox said the Hall of Famer is undergoing evaluation and testing at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Yastrzemski, who will turn 69 years old on Friday, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989 after a 23-year career with the BoSox. He first joined the team in 1961 and retired after the 1983 season.

"Yaz" was an 18-time All-Star and won AL MVP honors in 1967 when he became the last player to win batting's Triple Crown. He led the league that year with a .326 batting average and 121 runs batted in, while tying Minnesota's Harmon Killebrew for the AL lead with 44 homers.

The Red Sox also reached the World Series in 1967, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. Yastrzemski also played in the 1975 World Series against Cincinnati, another agonizing seven game setback. He batted .352 with three homers and nine RBI in 14 World Series games.
