Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox and general manager Theo Epstein have agreed to a new contract that extends beyond this season, according to a report published Tuesday by the Boston Globe.

Terms of the deal, which has yet to be formalized or signed, are unknown.

Epstein became the youngest general manager in major league history at age 28 when he took over the Red Sox on November 25, 2002. In his second year at the helm, Boston swept the St. Louis Cardinals to capture the franchise's first World Series title since 1918.

Shortly after the conclusion of the 2005 campaign, Epstein resigned from the Red Sox, citing philosophical differences with president and chief executive officer Larry Lucchino. He returned a few months later and inked a three-year contract which was set to expire at the end of this season.

Last season, Boston won its second championship in four seasons with a sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
