New York Yankees Team Report - May 20 ===
(My Sportsbook) - Two of the best pitchers in the American League square off this evening when Mike Mussina and the New York Yankees meet Bartolo Colon and the Anaheim Angels in the rubber match of their three-game set at Angel Stadium.
After a 1-4 start, Mussina has won his last three outings, but was less than impressive in his last trip to the hill on Friday against the Seattle Mariners. In that contest the 35-year-old righthander allowed five runs and 11 hits over six innings and saw his earned run average rise to 5.20.
Mussina, who is just 1-4 in his five road starts this season, has faced the Angels 24 times in his career and is 12-6 against them with a pair of complete games and a 3.58 ERA.
On Wednesday, Jon Lieber pitched into the eighth inning and Derek Jeter drew a bases-loaded walk to snap a sixth-inning tie, as the Yankees earned a 4-2 victory in the middle contest of the set.
Jason Giambi returned to the New York lineup after a two-game absence because of back spasms and belted a two-run homer. The Yankees bounced back from a 1-0, 11-inning loss in Tuesday's series-opener and won for the 15th time in their last 20 games.
Lieber (3-1) has become a dependable fourth starter for New York, winning for the third time in his four outings. He gave up two runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Mariano Rivera worked a five-pitch ninth for his AL- leading 15th save.
Alex Rodriguez finished 2-for-5 and has reached base safely in 28 consecutive games. Jeter, meanwhile, was 0-for-3 and has just one hit in his last 26 at- bats and is hitting a mere .187 on the season.
The Yankees are in the midst of their longest road trip of the season, a 12- game swing, and are 10-9 away from home this year.
The Yankees, who took two of three in the Bronx last week from the Halos, won six of the nine meetings between the teams last year and are 13-8 against the Angels in the last 21 regular season matchups. New York has also won six of its last eight in Anaheim
