St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - Two nights after having their nine-game winning streak snapped, the
St. Louis Blues hope to get back on the winning track when they welcome the
Toronto Maple Leafs to the Savvis Center.
The Blues fell one shy of matching their franchise record for a winning run as the Columbus Blue Jackets spoiled the fun by dealing them a 5-2 loss on Thursday night. Eric Boguniecki, the 2001 AHL MVP, scored two goals for the Blues, including one to make it a 3-2 game 13:17 into the third period. But the Jackets pulled away with two more markers in the frame.
Playing primarily on a line with Doug Weight and Cory Stillman, Boguniecki, who was left unprotected in the October Waiver Draft, has eight goals in 11 games this season to lead the team. He also scored twice in St. Louis' 5-2 victory over Montreal on Tuesday.
Goaltender Fred Brathwaite made 26 saves against Columbus, while Weight contributed an assist and extended his points streak to nine games. Weight has five goals and 12 assists in that time, and has registered a helper in seven consecutive tilts.
The Blues, 4-2-1 on home ice, will attempt to avoid their first regular season losing streak since March 24-26 of last season, when they fell to Chicago and Minnesota.
Toronto, meanwhile, has lost two of its last three games, including Friday's 2-1 setback in Dallas. Ed Belfour's return to Big D was spoiled, as the Stars beat him early in each of the first two periods. Josh Holden, making his debut with the Leafs, scored midway through the second period to draw Toronto within a goal, but Marty Turco and the Dallas defense held on.
Belfour finished with 21 saves on the night, after receiving a rousing ovation by the Stars' faithful when introduced as the Leafs' starter. In 10 starts, he is 3-5-2 with a 2.68 goals-against average and .905 save-percentage.
Holden, meanwhile, was acquired from Vancouver this past summer and made his debut after registering 14 points in 13 games for St. John's of the AHL. He was called up to replace center Nik Antropov, who is sidelined with a sprained knee.
The Leafs, 1-2-1 away from home, cap off a brief road trip tonight. They'll host Los Angeles at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday.
Toronto and St. Louis split two games last season, with each club winning in the other's building. The Blues are 3-1-1 in the last five meetings overall.
