Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Lightning try to remain perfect at home tonight when they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to the St. Pete Times Forum.
Tampa Bay is 5-0 on friendly ice thus far, and has outscored the opposition 23-9 in those games. The home tear leaves the Lightning one win shy of the franchise record set from February 15 - March 10, 1996, and matched from November 17 - December 21, 2001. Tampa is the only National Hockey League club without a home setback this season.
After an 0-3 road trip, the Bolts returned to Tampa and posted a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night. Vincent Lecavalier recorded his first career hat trick to lead the charge, while goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin made 15 saves for his eighth win of the season.
Fredrik Modin also scored, and Vaclav Prospal added a pair of assists. Martin St. Louis notched a helper as well, and stretched his points streak to six games. St. Louis has three goals and six assists in that time, and is second in the NHL with 21 points -- eight behind Mario Lemieux.
On the milestone watch is Lightning captain Dave Andreychuk, who is on the cusp of a significant achievement. Andreychuk trails Phil Esposito's NHL record of 249 power-play goals by one entering tonight's action. He is also three tallies shy of the 600 mark.
Tampa Bay opened a four-game homestand Friday, and will resume the set Monday against Phoenix.
Chicago, meanwhile, carries a two-game winning streak into the Sunshine State after posting back-to-back shutouts versus Detroit and Atlanta. After a 2-0 road win in Motown on Tuesday, the Blackhawks pasted the visiting Thrashers, 5-0, two nights later.
Goaltender Jocelyn Thibault was in net for both blankings, and made 35 saves between the two. He hasn't allowed a goal in 142 minutes and 56 seconds of action, and has three shutouts for the season.
Against Atlanta, the "ABC Line" of rookie Tyler Arnason, Mark Bell and Kyle Calder continued to shine, as Arnason and Bell each had a goal and two assists, while Calder posted a score and a helper.
Arnason, the reigning NHL Rookie of the Month, leads all first-year players with five goals and 11 points.
Chicago, 1-2-1 away from home, begins a brief road swing tonight. The Hawks will visit Florida on Monday.
The Blackhawks are unbeaten in the last seven games in this series (5-0-2), dating back to March 14, 1998. Chicago is 1-0-2 in its last three road games against the Lightning.
