Indianapolis, IN (My Sportsbook) - The
Indiana Pacers will shoot for their fourth straight victory this evening when they host the hobbled
Toronto Raptors at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Indiana extended its winning streak to three games on Friday with a 107-94 victory over the New York Knicks. Ron Artest scored 27 points and Brad Miller added 19 to lead the Pacers in the win.
Jermaine O'Neal netted 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while teammates Jamaal Tinsley and Al Harrington both finished with 14 points for Indiana. Tinsley also had 12 assists.
"It's very hard to identify one of their five guys on the floor as a weak link," Knicks head coach Don Chaney said about the Pacers. "We hoped that Tinsley would shoot poorly. Tonight, he made shots."
The Pacers have done all their damage without the services of Reggie Miller (ankle) and Austin Croshere (knee surgery).
Toronto is struggling with three losses in its last four games, including a 106-92 defeat to Dallas on Wednesday. The Raptors played without starters Vince Carter (strained left quadriceps tendon) and Antonio Davis (strained ribcage) in the loss. Starting center Jelani McCoy left after the first quarter with back spasms as well.
"We ran out of gas, but we worked real hard," Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens said. "They just didn't walk all over us."
To get a better grasp on Carter's injury that originally had him out until mid-November, the Raptors got a second opinion from noted knee doctor James Andrews on Thursday. They got bad news from Carter's second MRI, which showed that the injury was a bit more severe than thought and the diagnosis changed to four weeks.
Voshon Lenard led the way for the Raptors off the bench, posting a team-high 20 points. Lindsey Hunter added 17 points, while Jerome Williams and Morris Peterson chipped in 16 apiece. Alvin Williams rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Raptors with 14.
"There are no moral victories," Wilkens said. "Our effort was tremendous and I can't fault our guys."
The Raptors have dominated this series in the last two years, winning seven of the last eight contests. However, Indiana won these teams' last meeting, 98-82, on April 10.
Indiana owns a 18-9 advantage in the all-time series and the clubs have split the last two at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Raptors are just 3-10 all-time on the road in the series.
