New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - According to a published report, the
New York Knicks are discussing a trade that would send injured guard Latrell Sprewell to the
Chicago Bulls for guard Jalen Rose.
The Newark Star-Ledger reported Sunday that Bulls general manager Jerry Krause and Knicks GM Scott Layden have had several conversations about a possible trade.
Rose was acquired by the Bulls last February in a trade with Indiana. He has reportedly fallen out of favor in Chicago, especially with head coach Bill Cartwright, who allegedly thinks Rose dominates the ball too much.
Rose is in the third year of a seven-year, $93 million contract, and is scheduled to make $11.2 million this season. Sprewell was slated to make $12.3 million this season.
Sprewell, who is recovering from a broken hand, is not likely to be cleared to play before the Knicks' game versus Philadelphia on November 16.
Sprewell reported to training camp with a broken hand that he did not report and was fined $250,000 by the team. The four-time All Star had surgery on his right hand to help the healing process.
The fine was levied in response to Sprewell's supposed failure to tell the team about the injury to his shooting hand, which happened two weeks before the Knicks began training camp.
Sprewell also had been suspended without pay by the Knicks for not adhering to the rehabilitation program developed by the medical staff.
Sprewell averaged 19.4 points, 3.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game during the 2001-02 season -- his fourth with the Knicks. He was acquired by New York from Golden State after he sat out most of the 1997-98 campaign for choking then-Warriors' coach P.J. Carlesimo.
Rose, who was drafted by Denver, has averaged 13.4 points, 4.1 assists and 23.5 rebounds per game during his nine-year career. In his 37 games with the Bulls, Rose has averaged 23.4 points per game.
