Sunrise, FL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Blackhawks seek their fourth consecutive win tonight when they visit the
Florida Panthers at the Office Depot Center.
Chicago has disposed of Detroit, Atlanta and Tampa Bay during its tear, and is 6-2-1 in its last nine games overall. On Saturday night the Hawks managed a 3-2 overtime victory over the Lightning, as Igor Korolev scored his second goal of the game with 2:21 left in the extra frame.
Korolev beat Nikolai Khabibulin with a backhander shortly after the Blackhawks killed off a 5-on-3 power play. Chicago killed off 11 of the Bolts' 13 man- advantages, as Tampa spent 21:48 of the game with the extra man.
In all, the Blackhawks have allowed only nine power-play goals in 73 chances this season. Their 87.7 percent success rate ranks third in the NHL behind Vancouver and New Jersey.
Boris Mironov also tallied for Chicago, while Jocelyn Thibault continued his strong play with 37 saves. Thibault had notched back-to-back shutouts in wins over the Red Wings and Thrashers.
On the milestone watch, the Hawks' Steve Thomas remains two goals shy of 400 for his NHL career. Thomas has been stuck on 398 since October 19.
The Blackhawks, 2-2-1-0 on hostile ice, cap off a brief road trip tonight. However, after a two-game homestand later this week, Chicago will embark on a seven-game trek that will take the club into December.
Florida, meanwhile, has won three of its last five games (3-1-0-1), including Saturday's 3-0 victory over visiting Calgary. Goaltender Jani Hurme, who started for the injured Roberto Luongo, made 28 saves for the shutout, while former Flame Valeri Bure and Olli Jokinen each notched a goal and an assist.
Hurme, who notched the Panthers' first blanking of the season, played his second straight game in place of Luongo, who has been nursing a sore back. Luongo may return this evening.
The Panthers, 3-2-1-1 on home ice, cap off a two-game stand tonight. Mike Keenan's troops will then visit Philadelphia on Wednesday to start a brief road trip.
Chicago defeated Florida, 4-1, on October 17 at the United Center, as the Blackhawks scored four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0. Chicago has won six straight games in the series, dating back to November 4, 1998.
