Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - The
Dallas Mavericks try to stay perfect on the young season when they welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to AmericanAirlines Center on Monday night.
Portland is coming off an impressive 95-76 road win over the San Antonio Spurs. The Trail Blazers shot 51 percent from the field and allowed the Spurs to convert on just 39 percent of their field goals. Portland snapped a three-game road slide with the victory.
The key was slowing down Tim Duncan. Duncan scored just 16 points -- 15 of which came in the first half.
"We kept a pretty tight hold on Tim," Scottie Pippen said, "and didn't let him catch the ball in his comfort zone, where he can be a major threat."
Bonzi Wells scored 19 points while Pippen added 15. Ruben Patterson led all rebounders with 12.
The Mavericks are off to the best start in franchise history after opening the season with six straight wins.
Dallas surpassed the 100-point plateau for the fifth time in six games in Saturday's 114-75 romp over the Detroit Pistons. Dallas led by as many as 52 points before closing out its most one-sided victory of the season.
Michael Finley paced the Mavs with 25 points and Steve Nash added 17 points and 10 assists. Dallas shot 52 percent (41-of-79) from the field, including 8-of-17 from behind the arc.
The Mavs committed just four turnovers, tying the lowest total in franchise history and falling one shy of the NBA record shared by four teams.
"We did an outstanding job of taking care of the ball," said Nash.
Portland and Dallas have split the last three season series and each team won both its home games last season.
