York, PA (My Sportsbook) - Former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Ken Raffensberger died on Sunday at the age of 85. He played 15 seasons in the major leagues and twice led the National League in shutouts. He posted a 119-154 record while playing with St. Louis, the Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati between 1939 and 1954. Raffensberger made his major league debut in 1939 with the Cubs. That season he posted a 7-9 record in 43 games. During the 1944 season, he was the winning pitcher for the National League in the All-Star Game. After being traded to the Reds, Raffensberger led the league in shutouts in 1949 and 1952. During the 1949 season, he posted an 18-17 record with five shutouts. In 1952, he went 17-13 with a league-best six shutouts. He left the major leagues in 1954 and played baseball in Cuba, before pitching for his hometown York White Roses, a minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
