(My Sportsbook) - The
Minnesota Timberwolves played five of their first seven games at home and took advantage of the good fortune, coming away with a solid 4-3 overall mark.
The T'wolves posted victories in their first four games at the Target Center before dropping a 105-99 decision to the Boston Celtics on Saturday.
Home cooking has been crucial for Minnesota, which has been without many of its top players. Wally Szczerbiak has played just one game because of injuries, while Joe Smith, Terrell Brandon and Felipe Lopez are all on the injured list.
Szczerbiak missed the first five games with a foot injury and returned for the team's contest against Milwaukee on November 7. However, he suffered a knee injury in the win over the Bucks and was forced to sit out Saturday's setback to Boston.
Minnesota sorely missed Szczerbiak's presence against the Celtics, who put up 31 three-pointers and sank 14.
"Right now, without Wally, we're not conducive to playing perimeter teams," said Minnesota head coach Flip Saunders. "We didn't stay at home on the perimeter."
Szczerbiak is listed as day-to-day.
Saturday marked the end of a six-game string against Eastern Conference opponents in which the Wolves went 3-3.
While Minnesota has succeeded at home so far, it is winless on the road (0-2) and its upcoming schedule is anything but kind.
The T'wolves will play their next three games on the road, with a matchup against Midwest rival San Antonio in the new SBC Center on Monday. The Wolves follow that contest with games in New Orleans and Memphis. But Kevin Garnett is up for the challenge.
"I look forward to the matchups every night. [Saturday] it was Antoine Walker. Monday it will be Tim Duncan," Garnett told the Star Tribune. "Then we go to New Orleans, which is a place I've never been. Then [forward] Pau Gasol when we go to Memphis. Should be a nice week for me."
Minnesota also begins a six-game road trip on November 29. All stops are against Western Conference opponents, including games against the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.
