New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - New York Rangers forward Krzysztof Oliwa was suspended five games by the NHL on Monday for his actions in Saturday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The league also suspended Rangers head coach Bryan Trottier two games and the team was fined $25,000. In addition, forward Sandy McCarthy was fined $1,000 for starting a fight with the Blue Jackets. "The New York Rangers accept and will fully comply with the disciplinary actions rendered by the National Hockey League today and have no further comment on the matter," Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather said in a statement. The incidents came in the final moments of the November 9 game in Columbus. Oliwa was suspended for crosschecking Columbus' Grant Marshall in the face with the butt end of his stick. The NHL suspended Trottier partly because of the lineup he sent on the ice at the end of Columbus' 6-3 victory. The Rangers made a shift change with 2.5 seconds left in the game sending out Oliwa and McCarthy, who both initiated altercations immediately following the drop of the puck. Assistant coaches for both teams were pointing and shouting at each other through the glass separating the benches at one juncture during the game.
