(My Sportsbook) - New head coach Scott Skiles will try and guide a new look
Milwaukee Bucks team back from a dismal 26-56 record in the 2007-08 campaign.
Few teams in the NBA experienced as much turnover as the Bucks. Skiles headed to training camp with 10 new faces on the roster.
Gone are point guard Maurice Williams, who was shipped to Cleveland and forward Yi Jianlian, who is off to New Jersey. Guard Michael Redd, one of the best outside shooters in the game, and center Andrew Bogut remain the nucleus.
Redd averaged a team-best 22.7 points in 72 games last season, while Bogut led the club in rebounding (9.8 rpg). They will be joined by star small forward Richard Jefferson, who was acquired in the Yi trade, new point guard Luke Ridnour and rookie sharp-shooter Joe Alexander, the eighth overall pick in June's draft.
It may take a while for Skiles to develop the chemistry he wants but it looks like he has at least some of the talent he will need to install his philosophy of quick ball movement on offense and gritty man-to-man defense.

2008 DRAFT PICKS: 1. (8) Joe Alexander (F, West Virginia) 2. (37) Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (F, UCLA).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE:
PG- Luke Ridnour SG- Michael Redd SF- Richard Jefferson PF- Charlie Villanueva C- Andrew Bogut
KEY RESERVES: Ramon Sessions (G); Charlie Bell (G); Joe Alexander (F); Malik Allen (F); Dan Gadzuric (F)
FRONTCOURT: Jefferson is an extremely athletic player that can run the floor and ignite a crowd with his offensive ability, The Arizona product isn't the best rebounder or defender but gives the Bucks their best second scoring option is years.
"I think the Bucks acquired me to have me do things that I already do well -- running the floor, playing defense, playing hard every single night, share the ball and be a good teammate," Jefferson said. "I think those are the things the Bucks are looking to get from me. I'm just going to come here and try to blend in and play the way I normally do."
Charlie Villanueva, who averaged 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds in 76 games last season, takes over for Yi. He doesn't have the same upside as Jianlian but is a productive, hard-working player.
As a former No. 1 overall pick, Bogut has been a disappointment but it's not his fault he was the best player in a down year of the draft. The Australian is a solid pivot man that is above average in all phases of the game. He averaged career highs in points (14.3 ppg), boards (9.8 rpg) and blocks (1.7 bpg) last year and had 38 double-doubles, pretty good numbers for a league desperate for legitimate centers.
BACKCOURT: Even with the addition of Jefferson, Redd is still the leader of this team, especially after taking home a gold medal in Beijing. But, in the three seasons since Redd inked a six-year contract, the Bucks are just 94-152 with him as the focus. That may indicate Redd would be better off as the second option on a team with a legitimate star.
Ridnour takes over the point and will not offer the same offensive skills as Williams. He is an exceptional ball handler and will run the offense Skiles wants but the lack of a consistent jump shoot will allow opposing defenses to sag off and make thing it much more difficult to space the floor.
BENCH: The Bucks don't have a ton of offensive options off the bench and that's where Alexander comes in. Skiles needs a consistent scorer to compliment Redd and Jefferson and Alexander will get every opportunity.
Dan Gadzuric is a hard worker and a heck of a rebounder while Ramon Sessions flashed some upside in limited opportunities last season.
Guard Charlie Bell was a solid contributor two seasons ago but took a step back last season. Still, Bell is the Bucks' best perimeter defender and can play either guard spot.
Malik Allen played two seasons with the Bulls under Skiles and the coach loves his approach to the game.
OUTLOOK: In his first full seasons with Phoenix and Chicago, Skiles compiled a combined winning percentage of .597 so he tends to get results early and then flame out rather quickly. Expect a solid improvement by Milwaukee but they are still a piece or two away from being a legitimate playoff contender.
"He's an intense, no-nonsense type of guy, and that's what we need," Bogut said of Skiles. "I can guarantee every player on this team that if you're not working hard, you're going to hear about it, and that's what we really need.
"I think you come to work each day trying to be professional. Some guys might try to take a day off. But he'll be there to remind them. It's nothing personal and it's nothing against the individual, but it's your job to be professional, and he's being paid to make you better."
