St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) -
St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz said on Monday that two-time MVP Kurt Warner will return as the starting quarterback in two weeks despite the excellent play of third-stringer Marc Bulger.
"If he's healthy and he's 100 percent, it's a real easy decision for me," Martz said. "Kurt is our quarterback."
Warner fractured the little finger of his throwing hand in the September 29th game against Dallas. He had surgery and was originally expected to be out 8- to-10 weeks.
Martz said that Warner no longer feels pain in the finger, and could possibly make it through a game now, but wants to give him an extra week to rest. The coach did indicate that Warner would be the No. 2 quarterback in next Monday's game against Chicago, but would only play if something happened to Bulger.
The Rams lost their first five games, but have since won four straight with Bulger at the helm, most recently Sunday's 28-24 comeback victory over San Diego.
Bulger made a case for himself by completing 36-of-48 passes for 453 yards and four touchdowns against San Diego. He is 4-0 since taking over as the starter and has completed 92-of-138 passes for 1,149 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.
In contrast, Warner has thrown just one touchdown pass while being picked off eight times this season. He has completed 89-of-127 passes for 899 yards.
The Rams were able to string together three straight wins leading up to Sunday's game against San Diego mostly due to Marshall Faulk, who rushed for 519 yards in that span. However, Faulk was limited to 36 yards on 13 carries against the Chargers, and hurt his ankle early in the fourth quarter, leaving Bulger responsible for the comeback.
