Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield signed a three-year, $13.02 million contract on Monday. The Red Sox had an option to renew the pitchers's contract for 2003 at $3.8 million, but decided to negotiate a new deal. The 36-year-old Wakefield will make $4.03 million next season, $4.35 million in 2004 and $4.67 million in 2005. Last season, the knuckleballer posted the AL's fourth-best ERA (2.81) and second-lowest opponents' batting average (.204). Wakefield started 15 of the 45 games he appeared in, and ended the season with an 11-5 record.
