Montreal, Quebec (My Sportsbook) - The
Montreal Canadiens will try for their third straight win tonight when they wrap up a four-game homestand with the
Dallas Stars at the Bell Centre.
After dropping the first game of this set to the St. Louis Blues, the Canadiens have responded with back-to-back wins over the New York Islanders and, most recently, a 3-1 victory over the LA Kings on Saturday.
Yanic Perreault scored two goals in the first period to help Montreal to a 4-1-2 mark over its last seven games.
Jeff Hackett made 27 saves for the Canadiens in the win over the Kings. Richard Zednik added the other tally and is now five goals shy of 100 for his career. Mariusz Czerkawski, who will be playing in his 600th NHL game tonight, assisted on Zednik's tally.
Montreal finished 2-for-4 on the power play, and are 9-for-32 in their last eight games.
The Canadiens, who are 2-1-0 on their current set, are 3-3-3 on their home ice this season.
Dallas had its three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) stopped at the hands of the Islanders, 3-2, on Sunday.
Jere Lehtinen scored both goals for Dallas, which is winless in its last three on enemy ice (0-2-1). Mike Modano had two assists and is now three points shy of becoming the first player to score 1,000 points with the Stars.
Modano has six points in his last four games and is 10 points ahead of his pace last season after 16 games. Modano would become just the fifth American to reach the milestone (Joe Mullen, Pat LaFontaine, Jeremy Roenick, Phil Housley).
Free agent acquisition Bill Guerin did not light the lamp and has not scored in his last six games. However, he does have four assists in that span.
Marty Turco stopped 22 shots for the Stars. He was pulled for an extra attacker with 44 seconds left, but Dallas could not get the equalizer.
Pierre Turgeon had an assist and is now one short of 1,200 points in his NHL career.
The Stars have scored the first goal in 13 of the first 16 games this season and have an 8-2-3-0 record in those contests.
Dallas is unbeaten in its last five (3-0-2) versus Montreal and has not lost in its last three on the Canadiens' ice (1-0-2). However, Montreal is 6-4-3 in the last 13 overall and 9-2-4 in the last 15 at home against the Stars.
