(My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Blackhawks remained unbeaten in their last four games (3-0-1) after skating to a 2-2 tie with the
Florida Panthers on Monday. However, after the game no one in the Hawks' locker room seemed to care.
"This feels like a loss," winger Sergei Berezin said.
Phil Housley appeared to give Chicago the victory in overtime, but the goal was waved off by referee Paul Stewart after he ruled that Kyle Calder interfered with Florida netminder Jani Hurme on the shot.
"Kyle didn't touch the goalie," coach Brian Sutter said. "You can call it whatever you want, but that's a fact. He never touched the goalie."
Stewart is the same official who waved off a Tampa Bay goal midway through the second period Saturday night when a Lightning player bumped Hawks goaltender Jocelyn Thibault. Both times, Stewart ruled the play incidental contact and didn't call a penalty.
"I thought I was far enough away [from the goalie]," Calder said. "I don't think I was interfering with him. We're battling in front, there's not a lot of room in there."
It's not as if Chicago did not have its chances to put the final nail in Florida's coffin throughout the final 20 minutes. Leading by a goal entering the last period, the Blackhawks failed to convert on a full two-minute, two- man advantage that would have all but sealed the win.
"We had enough chances in the third period," Sutter said. "We had the 5-on-3 and two wide-open nets and missed them completely."
Lyle Odelein was then called for interference, which led to the game-tying goal from 19-year-old rookie defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, who picked up the first NHL tally of his career.
"I tried to look one way, it went in the other way," Thibault, fresh off of being named NHL Player of the Week, said. "It's my job to find the puck no matter how many guys are in front."
On a bright note, the Blackhawks remained unbeaten in their last 43 games when leading after two periods (38-0-5).
