Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - The Washington Capitals seek their fourth consecutive victory tonight when they cap off a three-game homestand against the
Dallas Stars at the MCI Center.
Washington, 4-1 in its last five overall since a four-game winless skid, has disposed of Columbus, Florida and Philadelphia during its tear, including Saturday night's 4-1 triumph over the Flyers. The Caps scored all four goals in the second period, including three in the first 6:45 of the frame. Sergei Gonchar, Steve Konowalchuk, Jaromir Jagr and Peter Bondra all found the net.
Jagr scored his team-leading ninth of the season, and also paces the club with 17 points. Bondra sits right behind him with eight goals and 14 points.
Goaltender Olie Kolzig turned aside 43 shots against a Flyers club that had been posting its share of goals in the early going, and improved to 6-2-0. Olie the Goalie will, however, have an uphill climb against Dallas, as he is 0-6-1 lifetime versus the Stars.
Washington, 4-1-0 at the MCI Center this season, will head to the Midwest for a brief trip after tonight. The Caps will visit Chicago on Friday, and Minnesota the following night.
Dallas, meanwhile, will conclude a three-game trek this evening, and is 3-1-1 in its last five games. On Tuesday in Montreal, the Stars, utilizing a three- goal opening period, notched a 4-2 win over the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. Sergei Zubov, Manny Malhotra, Jason Arnott all tallied, while Jere Lehtinen sealed things with an empty-netter after the Habs had drawn within a goal in the third.
Ron Tugnutt made 21 saves for the Stars, as he appeared in his 500th NHL game. Elsewhere on the milestone watch, center Pierre Turgeon assisted on Arnott's marker to record the 1,200th point of his career.
Mike Modano, on the other hand, was held point-less and remains three shy of reaching the 1,000 plateau.
The Stars, an even 4-4-3 on road ice, will host Colorado on Friday to kick off a two-game homestand.
Dallas toppled Washington, 5-2, in Texas on October 20, as Rob DiMaio led the effort with a pair of goals. The Stars have won two straight games in the series, and are 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings overall. They are 1-0-1 in their last two trips to DC.
