New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Boston Bruins goaltenders Manny Fernandez and Tim Thomas, Philadelphia Flyers center Jeff Carter and Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin have been selected as the NHL's top players for the month of December. Fernandez and Thomas were chosen as the co-First Stars after combining for a 12-1-0 record, 2.00 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. The Bruins ended the month with a 28-5-4 record, which marks their best start since 1929-30, when the team was 32-4-1. Carter tied for the league lead for points in December with 21 (11 goals, 10 assists) in 14 games. The Flyers went 9-3-2 over that stretch, as Carter currently leads the NHL with 27 goals. He recorded points in 11-of-14 games, as well as recording multi-point games in five of those contests. Ovechkin, November's First Star, tallied a league-high 12 goals in 14 games, as Washington went 11-3-0 for the month. He recorded a club-record sixth career overtime goal against the Islanders December 16 and recorded three points, as the Capitals came back from down 4-0 to defeat the Rangers, 5-4, on December 16. Ovechkin is currently second in the league in points with 52.
