Vancouver, BC (My Sportsbook) - The Vancouver Canucks have assigned goaltender Curtis Sanford to their AHL affiliate in Manitoba after he cleared waivers. Sanford was waived on Wednesday to open a spot on the roster for the return of Roberto Luongo, who has missed 23 games with a groin injury suffered in Pittsburgh on November 23. The Canucks, on Wednesday, made the decision to go with the recently-acquired Jason LaBarbera as the backup to Luongo. LaBarbera has a 2-1-2 record with a 3.07 goals-against average since coming over from Los Angeles on December 30. Sanford has played 19 games for the Canucks this season, posting a record of 7-8-0 with a 2.59 GAA. He is in his second year with Vancouver, playing 16 games last season as a backup to Luongo. The 29-year-old native of Owen Sound, Ontario also spent parts of three seasons with St. Louis and has a career record of 37-37-11 with 2.76 GAA. Luongo had a mark of 11-5-2 with five shutouts and a 2.17 GAA before his injury.
