St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with pitcher Todd Wellemeyer and outfielder Chris Duncan, avoiding arbitration with both players, on Monday. Financial terms of the contracts were not released. Wellemeyer went 13-9 with a 3.71 earned run average in his first season as a full-time starter. He earned pitcher of the month honors in May (4-0, 2.19 ERA), holding opposing batters to a .245 average for the season. Wellemeyer owns a career mark of 22-19 with a 4.42 ERA in 167 games (43 starts) over his six seasons in the league, which includes stops with the Cubs, Marlins, Royals and Cardinals. Duncan, 27, had his 2008 season come to an end on August 4 after having cervical disc replacement surgery. He batted .248 with six home runs and 27 runs batted in over 76 games. Over four seasons in the bigs, all with St. Louis, Duncan is a .266 career hitter with 50 home runs and 143 RBI in 302 games.
