Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - Sam Young scored 22 points as fourth-ranked Pittsburgh bounced back from its only loss of the season with a 78-60 win over No. 8 Syracuse at the Petersen Events Center.
DeJuan Blair tallied 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Panthers (17-1, 5-1 Big East), who were coming off a 69-63 loss at Louisville on Saturday. Levance Fields ended with 15 points and six assists for Pittsburgh, which beat the Orange for the 11th time in the last 14 meetings.
Andy Rautins had 17 points to pace Syracuse (17-3, 5-2), which has dropped two of its last three contests. They lost at Georgetown last Wednesday before winning at home convincingly against nationally-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday.
Rick Jackson's jumper early in the second half boosted Syracuse to a 35-33 edge, but the Panthers responded with the next nine points to go in front for good. Young's layup capped the spurt with 15:21 remaining.
Seven straight points later in the half made it a 53-40 margin, with a Fields layup culminating the flurry at the midway point.
Eric Devendorf and Rautins rallied with ensuing three-pointers, but the Orange got no closer.
Fields came back with a three-pointer, and the Panthers were ahead by double digits for the final 6:30 after Young drilled a shot from beyond the arc for a 59-48 difference.
Pittsburgh led by as many as nine in the opening half, but the Orange rallied from a 25-16 deficit to take the lead. A Rautins three-pointer made it 28-27, finishing nine straight points from Syracuse, which then trailed 31-28 at the half.
