Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Texas Rangers released pitcher Hideki Irabu on Wednesday. The Japanese hurler finished the 2002 season with a 3-8 record and a 5.74 earned run average. However, Irabu's season was cut short in July after being diagnosed with a series of small blood clots in his lungs. With Jeff Zimmerman hurt and John Rocker struggling, the Rangers moved Irabu from starter to closer. Irabu posted a team-high 16 saves, while appearing in 38 games.
