Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Cincinnati Reds signed free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes to a minor league contract, the team announced on Monday. Gomes' contract includes an invitation to Spring Training and is reported to be worth $600,000 with another $200,000 possible through incentives. Gomes became a free agent after the Tampa Bay Rays failed to tender him a contract following the 2008 season. In 77 games with Tampa Bay last season, the 28-year-old Gomes hit just .182 with eight homers and 21 runs batted in, splitting time between the majors and Triple-A. In 415 career games, spanning parts of six seasons with the Rays, Gomes has a .235 batting average, 66 home runs, and 184 RBI.
