New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Connecticut remained a unanimous top choice for the ninth straight week in the latest Associated Press women's college
basketball poll.
The Huskies (19-0) received all 45 first-place votes and a total of 1,125 points from a nationwide media panel while previously second-ranked North Carolina descended to 10th in the poll.
The Sooners moved up from three to the second spot with wins over Colorado and Texas as UNC not only fell from the ranks of unbeatens but lost each of its three games during the week. The Tar Heels were blown out by UConn, 88-58, last Monday in Chapel Hill, before dropping close decisions to Georgia Tech and Maryland in ACC action.
Duke, Baylor, Auburn, Louisville and California each moved up one spot and hold down third to seventh, respectively, while Maryland, Stanford and North Carolina round out this week's top-10.
Texas A&M dropped two spots to 11th after a loss to Baylor last Wednesday and Tennessee fell back three places to 13th following a setback to Auburn Sunday. Florida moved into the 12th position, Kansas State jumped to 14th with a pair of Big 12 victories and Ohio State grabbed 15th, also by way of a pair of conference wins.
Texas, Notre Dame, Florida State, Virginia and Vanderbilt occupy the slots 16-20, respectively.
The final five teams consist of Pittsburgh, Iowa State, Xavier, South Dakota State and DePaul.
Iowa State is back in the poll one week after being bounced while Xavier, South Dakota State and DePaul are each newcomers this week.
Marist, Rutgers, New Mexico and Oklahoma State all fell out of the rankings.
