Cleveland, OH (My Sportsbook) - Sebastien Bourdais easily drove past the finish line to win Saturday's Cleveland Grand Prix in the Champ Car Series. The No.2 Lola driver crossed the finish line 15.130 seconds ahead of Bruno Junqueira.
This was Bourdais' third victory of the season and sixth of his Champ Car career.
The start of the race started like the past four years have with a incident on turn one of the first lap. This year the pole-winner, Paul Tracy, and Justin Wilson were the victims of the historic turn one incident.
After the crash a very disappointed Tracy said, "the corner was mine, so it's very disappointing."
Bourdais quickly took the lead and from that point on it was his race.
Bourdais was followed by the No.7 driver Patrick Carpentier for the first 20 laps. But on lap 21, Carpentier experienced mechanical problems with his car and within the next few laps his day was done.
Bourdais became so dominant that at some points in the race he opened up his lead to over 20 seconds. With Bourdais' huge lead the race became a battle for second and third.
From lap 21 on the race had Junqueira, Alex Tagliani, Oriol Servia, Michel Jourdain Jr., and Ryan Hunter Reay battling behind Bourdais.
On lap 45, Hunter-Reay began to have mechanical problems and was not able to get things going from then on as he finished in 11th place.
Jourdain Jr., who had made some contact with the wall, soon began to have car problems. He then made a regular pit stop, but a few laps later had to come back in and call it a day as there was just too much damage to the left front wishbone of the car to continue.
With Hunter Reay and Jourdain Jr. out of the race the top-five began to take its shape.
After the final green flag pit stops around lap 70 the top-five read: Bourdais, Servia, Junqueira, Tagliani, and Jimmy Vasser.
The drivers paraded around the course in that order for most of the race.
Bourdais took the victory with his teammate Junqueira moving into second. Tagliani, Servia, and Vasser completed the top-five.
The next race in the Champ Car Series is set for Sunday, July 11th at the Exhibition Place in Toronto, Canada.
